1879 50C PR67 Cameo NGC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The 1879 half dollar was struck in a small quantity. This was primarily because the Mint diverted much of its resources to striking silver dollars after implementation of the Bland-Allison Act. Of the 1,100 proofs produced in 1879, this is among the finest known. The fields are mirror-like and set up a "black" background for the thickly frosted "white" devices. The interiors are mostly brilliant while the margins gradually increase in color to a deep golden-russet. The strike details are pinpoint-sharp throughout. Census: 12 in 67 Cameo (1 in 67+ Cameo, 3 in 67 S Cameo), 1 finer (9/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $4.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
