1881 50C PR66 Cameo NGC. CAC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Of the 10,975 total half dollars struck in 1881, only 975 were proofs. This is among the finest known, and certainly one of the most attractive. The deep, glassy fields set up the necessary background for the frosted devices, the combination yielding cameo contrast. Light golden-brown toning appears mainly around the margins, and there is a significant presence of mint brilliance remaining on both obverse and reverse. Census: 17 in 66 Cameo (1 in 66 S Cameo), 3 finer (9/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $6.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
