1884 50C PR67 Cameo NGC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The 1884 half dollar is best known as the nadir of the 1879-1890 low-mintage series. Only 5,275 total half dollars were struck, of which a mere 875 were proofs. This piece is tied with several others as finest certified. The surfaces are bright and flashy with deep reflectivity seen in the fields. Light rose-colored margins contrast against the brilliant centers, just as the heavily frosted devices contrast against the mirrored fields. Census: 6 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (9/13). Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $6.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
