1885 50C PR65 Cameo NGC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The 1885 half dollar is among the lowest total mintage dates from the always-collectible 1880s. Only 930 proofs were struck out of a total output of 6,130 pieces. This is a magnificent cameo that displays thick mint frost over the devices, set against deeply reflective fields. The contrast is so stark that it is a borderline Ultra Cameo. The brilliant centers are surrounded by a wide and ever-deepening margin of russet-golden patina. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $6.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
