1859-O $1 AU50 NGC. A relatively large number of 1859-O dollars were minted with 360,000 pieces struck. Apparently a large number were set aside by silver depositors and bullion dealers at the time of production. Some entered circulation, such as this piece. Approximately equal numbers of circulated and Uncirculated examples are known today, with the large number of Mint State dollars explained by the Treasury hoard coins released in 1962. This lightly abraded AU displays patches of golden-brown interspersed with brilliance on each side. The strike details are just a tad soft over the high points. Ex: Eric P.
