1864 $1 XF40 NGC. The 1864 silver dollars were struck five years after the first of the Comstock silver was produced, yet the mintage of dollars remained low with only 30,700 pieces struck in this year. This is a pleasing, well-balanced coin that is lightly and uniformly toned light reddish-gray. As often seen, the fields retain significant semi-prooflikeness. A number of small to medium-sized abrasions are scattered over each side, but none are worthy of individual mention. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
