1869 $1 PR62 Cameo NGC. CAC. Only 600 proof Seated Liberty dollars were struck in 1869 all apparently for inclusion in the proof sets of the year. Surprisingly, three obverse and two reverse dies were used to strike the small mintage. This coin is from the Breen-5481 dies, with the shield point left of center of the upright of 1 in the date. The design elements are sharply detailed throughout and the brilliant fields are deeply reflective. The frosty devices contrast noticeably with the deep mirrors, creating a delightful cameo effect. A few minor hairlines and contact marks are consistent with the grade. Census: 9 in 62 Cameo, 28 finer (10/13). Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
