||1787 1C Fugio Copper "Cent," UNITED STATES, Rounded Club Rays VF30. CAC. Newman 3-D, W-6680, R.3. 164.4 grains. The obverse of Newman 3-D features Rounded Club Rays with their ends convex. Similar Rounded Club Rays are seen on Newman 4-E, also rated R.3, so collectors have a reasonable chance of obtaining a nice example of one or the other variety. This example is an early die state with no evidence of obverse die cracks, although die crumbling appears in the lower loop of the 8. This pleasing olive-brown copper has emerald patina on the reverse. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
