||1872-CC $20 XF45 NGC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The 1872-CC double eagle had a mintage of only 26,900 pieces, but remains moderately available in lower circulated grades. However, Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth note in their Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins: "The population data for About Uncirculated condition are greatly inflated by resubmissions." Such an occurrence is not uncommon to issues such as the 1872-CC, which are conditionally rare in any Mint State grade. This Choice XF representative exhibits rich olive-gold patina over each side, with fiery orange-gold hues seen in the protected regions. The surfaces are only minimally abraded for the grade, displaying above-average visual appeal. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a.
