||1876-CC $20 AU58 NGC. CAC. Variety 2-C. The 1876-CC is a fairly plentiful Carson City issue, as many examples survived the melting pots via various European and South American holdings. Doug Winter, however, notes: "In Mint State-62, this issue becomes rare and it is extremely rare in Mint State-63. Nearly every known Uncirculated 1876-CC double eagle shows very heavily abraded surfaces ..." This near-Mint, honey-gold representative offers the Carson City collector an attractive, minimally abraded alternative. The devices exhibit just a trace of friction when viewed with magnification, but the detail remains virtually complete, and the fields show substantial semiprooflike luster. Ex: Eric P.
