||1908-S 1C MS65 Red and Brown NGC. CAC. The San Francisco facility was the first branch mint to coin the cent denomination, beginning production in November 1908, and striking a little more than 1.1 million pieces before the end of the year. Mint State survivors are not definably rare, though they are heavily pursued by Indian cent specialists. This Gem example displays nearly full red luster, with just a few faint burgundy overtones on the reverse. Well-struck motifs complete the overall appeal. Ex: Eric P.
