Cromwell Halfcrown 1658, S-3227A, AU58 NGC. An attractive example of this classic coin having a balanced strike on each side and pleasing fields. Old-time, well-set patina in various shades of gray is testament to the originality of the surfaces. The reverse legend translates from the Latin to mean "Peace is sought by war," while the obverse offers not a royal legend (REX) but in its place uses PRO for "Protector" of England, Scotland and Ireland. Only the halfcrown among the silver coinage of this reign includes "ET" after SCOT in this legend.
