S ? PETRVS ? ? ALMA ROMA ?, St. Peter holding key and gospel in quadrilobe. An interesting legend variety on a slightly out-of-round and wavy flan. The strike is average for the type, with even circulation and minimal surface deposits. Nicholas V, the founder of the Vatican Library, is considered to be the first of the Renaissance popes and is partly responsible for attracting many intellectuals to Rome after the fall of Constantinople in 1453.
