Description 1773 1/2P Virginia Halfpenny, Period MS63 Brown NGC. N. 23-Q, W-1560, R.3. 106.5 grains. This plentiful variety has a period after GEORGIVS, and displays seven strings in the harp on the reverse. Obverse die 23 is found with reverse Q, and also with another seven strings reverse, reverse R, offered in the next lot. Both sides of this attractive Mint State Virginia colonial coin exhibit olive-brown patina with brilliant orange mint luster in the protected areas. A few splashes of steel toning are evident on the obverse. The Virginia halfpence are official issues of the British government, coined exclusively for use in the American colonies.
