1787 COPPER Connecticut Copper, Mailed Bust Right, Muttonhead VF25 NGC. M. 1.2-C, W-2720, R.3. 123.5 grains. The Muttonhead copper is one of the most famous and popular varieties in the Connecticut series, and it is also one of the most plentiful. The term Muttonhead expresses a low opinion of a person's intelligence. This example is the typical late die state with the U and the right half of the O in AUCTORI weak, and with most of CONNEC weak or absent. Both sides are attractive with a combination of golden-tan, steel-brown, and mahogany patina. A few ancient scratches and microscopic granularity do little to diminish the eye appeal. Ex: Eric P.
