1787 COPPER Connecticut Copper, Draped Bust Left XF40 NGC. M. 37.8-k.2, W-4155, R.5. 157.4 grains. This obverse is identified with reverse dies HH, LL, and k.2, the last known only in this one die pairing. Several examples of the rare Miller 37.8-k.2 are similar to this piece, including XF examples in Taylor and Ford. This pleasing piece has essentially problem-free olive-brown surfaces with hints of mahogany and steel-brown toning at the borders. Although it probably just misses the Condition Census, this coin is finer than most examples that we have encountered. The ANS has six examples that grade from Good to VF. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
