1788 COPPER Connecticut Copper, Draped Bust Left Fine 12 NGC. M. 16.5-H, W-4625, Low R.5. 97.2 grains. The obverse makes no other appearances in the Connecticut series, while the reverse also appears with obverse dies 6 and 16.1. The surfaces of this scarce copper show old verdigris, especially on the steel-brown reverse. The obverse exhibits chocolate fields and olive-brown devices. The Eric P. Newman specimen is comparable to others that we have seen, including the Fine examples in the 1975 Pine-Tree EAC sale, and in Taylor and Norweb. Perkins had an XF coin, and Ford's was Mint State. Ex: Richard Picker; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
