1787 COPPER New Jersey Copper, No Sprig above Plow VF25 NGC. M. 68-w, W-5400, R.5. 137.3 grains. Both dies show prominent sinking on this late die state piece. The surfaces are glossy steel-brown with hints of lighter chocolate-brown toning. This important copper has an old round collector's tag stating the coin was acquired at some point from W.C. Gilman. The planchet is incomplete with a raised elliptical area on the obverse, suggesting the necessity of advanced study by the prospective buyer. Ex: W.C. Gilman; later, Eric P.
