1788 1C Massachusetts Cent, Period AU Details, Improperly Cleaned NGC. R. 8-C, W-6260, R.3. A net grade of XF is appropriate for this piece, in our opinion. While outside the census, it is a lovely example that will make a nice addition to a variety collection of Massachusetts copper coins. Lightly granular surfaces exhibit a small green corrosion spot in the left obverse field. The surfaces combine olive, golden-brown, and reddish-orange, the latter remaining from cleaning long ago. Over the years, this nicely detailed example has acquired a pleasing appearance. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
