1723 FARTH Hibernia Farthing, DEI GRATIA MS66 Brown NGC. Martin 3.3-Ba.1, W-12255, R.2. This variety, exhibiting 9 harp strings, is a spectacular example, in terms of both original production quality and virtually flawless preservation. Much more red than brown, both sides exhibit impressive luster and clean, mark-free surfaces. The design motifs and legends are fully struck, an unusual occurrence on one of these early issues. Only some of the dentils, between 8 and 2 o'clock on the obverse, show less-than-complete definition. Just two of the Dei Gratia coins, including this sub-variety, have been graded at MS66 by NGC, with none finer (3/14). Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
