1789 TOKEN Mott Token, Thick Planchet, Plain Edge AU50 NGC. The dies used to strike Mott tokens suffered from rust, excessive wear, and breakage, and most resulting tokens exhibit partially obscured legends and little if any detail on the clock face. The large, characteristic die break on the upper-left corner of the clock is in an early state on this lightly circulated piece, with only a fraction of the typically seen break. The border legends are unusually clear, and the light wear seen over the high points of the design has not overly tempered the central sharpness. Glossy auburn-brown patina blankets each side, with no significant surface imperfections. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society.
