North Carolina April 4, 1748 3 Pounds Fort Johnson & Union Jack Fr. NC-70. PCGS Extremely Fine 40 Apparent. A very appealing example of this early Proclamation Money issue with an interesting vignette of Fort Johnson and a Union Jack at the lower left. A quantity of 2,000 was authorized to be printed. Three of the four signatures are strong, but Eleazer Allen's is light. This type was much rarer many years ago. However, most examples of this type from the hoard were badly damaged and vastly inferior to this Newman Collection example. Noted with "Edge Splits and Tears; Hinge Repairs on Back." Superior to most known. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
