North Carolina December, 1771 30 Shillings Hand Holding Falchion Contemporary Counterfeit Fr. NC-140. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. A smaller format style with a lower left emblem of a hand holding a falchion aloft. This is a rare contemporary circulating counterfeit. It has a diagnostic tilting lower right upright in the obsolete (or long) style "s" in "Treasury." The note is has clear differences from the genuine example in the Newman Collection (Newman Internet 2: 90164, January 11, 2017). The signatures and back endorsements help make this a convincing note. Grading cites: "Tears and Minor Damage; Repairs; Partially Backed." An important note for the specialist. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
