North Carolina April 2, 1776 $1/16 Griffin Fr. NC-153d. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent. This note and the next several are from one of the most intriguing and diverse issues in Colonial Currency. It features 56 types ranging in denomination from $1/16 to $20. The notes feature interesting vignettes of many kinds: animals, decorative objects, mythological creatures, patriotic motifs, and even monograms (see the Newman Internet Part 2 sale for all six monogrammed types). All low fractional denomination notes are hard to find in any grade. This rarity is only the second we have cataloged, the last in 2009. Noted with "Splits, Tears and Damage; Missing Pieces; Hinge Repairs on Back." The all-important vignette is sharp. Ex: Eric P.
