Virginia March 4, 1773 20 Shillings Ashby Note Fr. VA-67. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. This is a very distinctive large format note. These "forms" were printed in London from the copper plates engraved by Henry Ashby. In tiny letters, his imprint "Ashby sc" (using the long "s") and "London" are on either side of the DEATH/TO COUNTERFEIT warning at the left end. Printed on fine watermarked paper. A uniface note with intricate ornamental flourishes at the left and Virginia Arms at the top. The issuing series date was written in. Signed by Peyton Randolph and John Blair, countersigned on the blank back by Robert Carter Nicholas. Noted with "Small Edge Split at Left; Pinholes." This is a nicely balanced example, quite vibrant, boasting lovely natural paper quality. A perfect representative from this scarce and interesting issue. Ex: Eric P.
