Description Virginia July 17, 1775 5 Pounds Ashby Note Fr. VA-80b. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. This bill is from the second series of Ashby-engraved large format notes; they were printed uniface on watermarked paper from copper plates. Remaining Ashby printed forms were placed into service, with appropriate changes in texts, when small ordinance note rag paper was exhausted. The series date is penned within the engraved obligation text. Signed by Johnson and Tazewell at the lower right and endorsed on the back by Robert Carter Nicholas. The indented left border has a wavy cut as issued. Noted with "Splits and Tears; Small Hole Near Bottom Right." Overall, this is a wholesome and scarce example. Ex: Eric P.
