Continental Currency May 20, 1777 $6 Date Altered to May 22, 1777 Fr. CC-67. PCGS Very Fine 20. This note should intrigue specialists for hours when they accept the challenge of studying the diagnostics. This "First United States" note might be classified as a "Second United States" issue, but clearly it is the creation of period artisans (or criminals). The date is altered to "May 22, 1777," but is it an altered date genuine note or an altered date contemporary counterfeit? The counterfeit type cited by Eric in the appendix was described on an official broadside illustrated on page 467. The described diagnostic of the "V" of "Value" higher than the base of the other letter is seen here. However, comparison with a counterfeit detector of this type is favorable to the unaltered portions of the host note being genuine.
