Description United States of America - Continental Loan Office in the State of "Rhode Island" Exchange for $18/90 Livres Tournois Third Bill, Payable at Paris January 2, 1781 Anderson-Smythe US-95-11A. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. The lowest denomination Livres Tournois certificate, similar to others in the series, issued in Rhode Island. Printed on laid paper, watermarked "United States 3." 20.5 cm by 9.5 cm. In the common layout, with black typeset titles, obligations, denominations, and blanks for issuance across. Ornamental bordering is at right. The indenting design at left, and area along the top, with denomination and serial block are printed in very light green. No. 2830. Issued to Samuel Paine and countersigned by Jos. Clarke for Rhode Island. Signed by Declaration of Independence signer Francis Hopkinson as the "Treas'r of Loans" engraved and printed in very light green. Endorsed on back with Paine's signature. The noted "Minor Ink Erosion" is in the Hopkinson signature, but seeing it requires careful scrutiny with a glass. Rhode Island is a scarcer Loan Office issuance. Very pleasing. Ex: Eric P.
