State of Massachusetts Bay - Certificate for "Use of the Said State....; in Behalf of the Said State" 6% Payable on June 20th __ 100 Pounds Dec. 6, 1776 Anderson-Smythe MA-2. PCGS Very Fine 30. Massachusetts fiscal paper from the Revolutionary War period breaks down into three distinct styles. The earliest are typeset forms, followed by engraved and vignetted types, and a return to typeset printing during the early Commonwealth of Massachusetts period. An early State loan paying 6% interest. Printed on laid paper. 18.0 cm by 18.0 cm. A partly printed typeset form within a border of ornaments and planetary symbols. The left end shows a wavy indented cutting as issued. No. 407. Issued and signed by Fuller, Brown and, Gardner (pen cancelled). Payable with interest on June 20, 1778, with fill endorsements on the back. This is a scarcer Massachusetts certificate, Rarity-5 in Anderson-Smythe, and in superb condition. The bond is full, untrimmed, and with magnificent margins. The faintest tinge of edge toning is at the top of the left indent. Underrated, and one of the finest known. Ex: Eric P.
