State of the Massachusetts Bay - (Act of May 2, 1777) 6% Treasury Loan Certificate due May 10, 1782 20 Pounds Septem'r 1, 1777 Anderson-Smythe MA-9. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. A second MA-9 Massachusetts bond, fully issued and with the iconic "Sword in Hand" vignette. Printed from a Nathaniel Hurd plate on laid paper. 20.5 cm by 23.0 cm. Style as last, with an embossed stamp on the text portion. No. 198. Issued and signed by Jeffries, Cheever, and Henry Gardner (pen cancelled). A red diagonal interest endorsement is at right on the face, and the back has a docketed endorsement that this received "Paper Currency Pay." Noted with "Small Splits."
