Description Bowen-Congreve Patent Back Color Tint Essay. "Congreve Patent Check Plate" with "BANK" across in Green and Brown 1833. Proof. PCGS Choice New 63 Apparent. The second of the eight proof backs is green and brown, each boldly printed and contrasting superbly. The style is similar to the previous, and has a different color scheme. The word BANK across the note is bisected, and the brown letters have overlapping green elements. At the center is a circular green and brown die with the encircling patent title in white (note, the order of the wording differs from the previous example). The miniscule text noted in the previous is also at bottom left on this proof, although more difficult to discern. On this, a small "8" is at the base, and the Bowen imprint is at bottom right. This back was used on the Nahant Bank $3 notes. Cited with "Minor Stains" and "Mounted on Woodblock." Ex: NASCA, T. James Clarke Sale, June 26-29, 1978, part of lot 2050; Eric P.
