Bowen-Congreve Patent Back Color Tint Essay. Congreve Patent Plate with "CHECK" across in Red and Black 1833. Proof. PCGS Choice New 63 Apparent. The fourth back has a gorgeous three-dimensional appearance with a large CHECK across the note in gray and pale red. Concentric circles in the center are in a black and red with the white title CONGREVE/PATENT/PLATE stacked. A repeating pattern with a lattice effect is in the background. The text at the bottom is: "Entered According to Act of Congress in the year 1833 by Abel Bowen in the Clerk's office of the District of Massachusetts". A small "7" is between that text and the Bowen imprint. Noted with "Minor Edge Damage" and "Mounted on Woodblock." Similar to, but not identical, to the back of the Nahant Bank $1 notes. The colors project wonderfully. Ex: NASCA, T. James Clarke Sale, June 26-29, 1978, part of lot 2050; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017). Ex: Eric P.
