Huntsville, AL - Alex Johnson, Johnson House 5 Cents 1862 Rosene 130-2. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. A bright and well-margined example of this type. Bob Cochran, who collected and studied Huntsville notes for decades, shared that that Alex Johnson was proprietor of the Johnson House; it was located on the east side of Washington Street, between Randolph and Clinton. The vignette with tumbling chairs and footstools is quite puzzling, but certainly catches one's attention. The signature of the proprietor is at lower right. "Mounting Remnants on Back" are noted by grading, but the note has a bright and well-margined face. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
