Fayetteville, AR - Holcomb & Barnard 75 Cents Jan. 17, 1862 Rothert 198-9. PCGS Very Fine 30. Notes from this issuer are diverse and interesting. This apothecary scrip note was printed on very thin, partially translucent, brown paper. The paper quality is superb for the type and has ample margins. An ornamental border is all around, and a denominational end panel is at the left. Payable in "Confederate Notes." Holcomb signing as "Cashier" is curious, and perhaps the duo acted as private bankers as well. Countersigned on the back by Barnard, which shows through to the face. Choice and undervalued in this high quality. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
