Fort Smith, AR - Fort Smith City Bond $2 at 8% Two Years After Date Aug. 1, 1868 Rothert UNL. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent. The Newman Collection Obsolete currency has become synonymous with unlisted and unpublished examples over the course of several catalogs. This Reconstruction era interest-bearing "bond" note is from an unlisted issuer in Rothert, and it is a beautifully executed type. Engraved and printed in New York by the National Bank Note Company. Dazzling green protector devices are at the perimeter and over the denomination, and the note has a mesmerizing green back with an elaborate "2" at the center along with numerous interlocking micro-counters using Cyrus Durand patents. At the face center, beneath the title of this municipal issue, is a wide drover scene. Two beehives are at the lower left, and a cotton plant is at the lower right. "Two Years after date" is stamped in Gothic font flanking the bottom of the vignette. Grading notes "Edge and Internal Splits." However, this still has bold color on both sides.
