Van Buren, AR - White & Hanley 25 Cents Jan. 25, 1862 Rothert 665-1. PCGS Very Fine 20. This series is quite varied, and the Newman Collection features over ten different types. Stirman & Dickson and the Mayers Brothers honored White & Hanly notes at their locations, as specified on the end cartouches. This brown paper note is typeset, payable "in Merchandise," and has "Confederate Notes" along the bottom center. The merchants' perpendicular hand-endorsement is on the back indicating an issued note. This Newman duplicate is nearly as fine as the PCGS Extremely Fine 40 sold in Newman Internet 1 in May 2016 for $317.25. It represents the series admirably. Ex: Eric P.
