Yellville, AR - Coleman & Shaver $1 June, 1862 Rothert 712-2. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. This is a boldly printed rarity on grayish-blue paper with the imprint of J.D. Butler Print. A youngster rowing a boat (adapted from pre-war engraved Obsolete notes) is at the left end, and a dog's head appears at the base. The bottom margin is closer than the top, and a comparison with the Rothert plate note convinces us they were printed in two-note pairs. "Small Tears at LR; Stains" are noted by grading. Those minor issues are overwhelmed by the note's charm and rarity. The first we have cataloged. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
