Fairfield, CT - Lot of 3 Fairfield Loan & Trust Company Odd Denomination Coin-Vignetted Notes. This popular series, engraved and printed by Rawdon, Wright & Hatch, features United States bust coinage vignettes of various types to configure the denomination protection of the particular type. These paid 3% interest at a later date. All are hand-dated Oct. 15, 1837 and like most "Hard Times Era" concerns, they went broke. They are not listed in Haxby, but are in the Whitman Encyclopedia. $1-1/4 Oct. 15, 1837 Whitman 280-001.25-G040. PCGS Very Fine 35 Apparent. Two reeded edge bust half obverses with a quarter reverse are at the left. A bull is at right. Only some "Minor Stains" are noted. $1-1/2 Oct. 15, 1837 Whitman 280-001.50-G050. PCGS Fine 15. Three reeded edge bust half obverses are at left. A woman harvester is at the right. $1-3/4 Oct. 15, 1837 Whitman 280-001.75-G060. PCGS New 62. The left end trio shows a quarter reverse, half dollar obverse and early heraldic eagle bust dollar reverse (as dollar coins were not produced again until the seated types by Gobrecht).
