Columbus, GA - Bank of Columbus $50 Jan. 1, 1859 G105 G60b. PCGS Fine 15. At first, this note's scarcity might appear to be on par with the other color notes from the bank as previous. However, this $50 is tough to find, as shown by auction realizations. Very handsomely produced by Bald, Cousland & Co. with a cursive "ABC" monogram at the bottom. The vermillion counters, denomination, and red frame enhance the presentation. The main vignette shows a steamboat navigating a river at lower left, and Washington is at lower right. The Alan Dorris example was a raw Very Fine and brought $352.50. Prior to that we handled a PMG Fine 15 for $488.75 in 2014. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
