Description Savannah, GA - Lot of 2 Bank of Commerce May 6, 1858 Issued Notes with Bank of the Republic Back Stamps. A beautifully matched pair of Bald, Cousland & Co., Philadelphia/Baldwin, Bald & Cousland, New York notes. Red protectors and Bank of the Republic, NY ? P.CT. discount stampings are on the blank back. Both signed by Gazaway Bugg Lamar, the architect of the Confederate Montgomery note acquisition. He was president of both banks. These are bold and well-framed notes. $5 May 6, 1858 GA-275 G6c. PCGS Extremely Fine 45. Liberty with her capped pole and a soldier with bayonet flank a shield with the state seal. A red FIVE protector is across. $10 May 6, 1858 GA-275 G8c. PCGS Extremely Fine 45. Same series, signatures and stampings.
