Golconda, IL - Ohio River Bank $5 Raised from $1 Oct. 1, 1859 IL-320 UNL. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. The Newman Collection contains many raised denomination genuine notes, and this is the second different example from the bank. This is an unlisted $5 raised note on the short-lived bank from a genuine $1. Observed during the period were $10 raised bills from genuine $1 notes. A river-rafting scene is at top center, a riverboat at lower left, and a sailor at lower right. The American Bank Note Company imprint is at bottom left. A "Tape Repaired Tear at Right" is noted by PCGS. This is much sharper than the $2 raised note we offered that realized $258.50 in Newman Internet 2, January 2017. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
