Shawanee Town, IL - Bank of Illinois $5 May 30, 1818 IL-740 G32 SENC. PCGS Very Fine 25. Exceedingly rare and unpublished until the present example. We traced two notes from this early Chartered Bank vignetted series. Both were proofs, a $10 and $50, in the 1990 American Banknote Company sale by Murray, Draper, Fairman & Co. This is issued and dated in the territorial period, prior to statehood in December of 1818. An allegorical female holding a "5" is at top center and ends are intricate. The condition is superb for a note such as this. An important opportunity for Illinois or early-dated note specialists. Ex: Eric P.
