Covington, IN - Bank of Covington $2 May 1, 1854 IN-135 G2, WVS 152-1. PCGS Very Fine 20. An intriguing note from an Indiana 1850s bank that did not go broke and leave note-holders in the lurch. According to the state records, there was no outstanding circulation when they closed, and the few issued notes known bear that out. A beautifully engraved Danforth, Wright & Co. type. The central scene has a hay wagon being loaded. At the left end is a milkmaid with her pail in an oval. At the right end are Cyrus Durand patent lathe work "strips" for protection from denomination raising. A lovely example combining rarity and top condition for a note such as this. Ex: Eric P.
