Lexington, KY - Lot of 2 Cashier of the Bank of the United States (the Second) Office of Discount and Deposit Contemporary Counterfeit Note. Counterfeit branch notes that imitate the Murray, Draper, Fairman & Co engraved plates. $5 Contemporary Counterfeit Jan. 1, 1828 US-2 C374, Hughes 375 Type. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. An eagle on a shield hovers above the ocean at the top center. The intricate panels used by this engraver have small portraits; their lack of details is a giveaway about the spurious printing nature. Grading notes "Small Edge Tears; Minor Stains," but still a solid note. $10 Contemporary Counterfeit April 1, 1828 KY-2 C380. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent. A second counterfeit on the bank with the same layout as previous. The note has problems cited as: "Severed and Repaired; Piece Missing UL of Center; Minor Stains." Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2017).
