Description | English penny, 1916. The seller's husband had this in his collection for nearly 40 years, but doesn't recollect how he acquired it. Because of the date of the coin, it may have been a commemoration of the 1916 Easter Rising that saw the participation of many party members. In fact, so many ?Shinners? were active in the revolt that it was often referred to as the Sinn Fein Rising. Purchased from Rita Melville / Newtownabbey, Co. Antrim, N. Ireland. (My. 31, 2017) ($14). |
