The Nationalist Easter Rising occurred in 1916, the date of the coin. The neatly drilled hole through the portrait suggests a bullet hole so this would be an assassination coin. The engraved number 13 may reference the number of people slain by 1 Para during the Bloody Sunday civil rights march in Derry on January 30. 1972. This piece was in the seller's collection for many years but he had no recollection of where or when he acquired it. The meaning of the alterations were also unknown to him.
