Description |
The defacements are applied neatly with a small diamond shaped punch and obliterate the symbolic representations of Britain. Britannia's trident and face, and the King's eye and name are all flattened. There's also a shallow X scratched in the field of the coin on the reverse. The seller told me that his mother, an eclectic collector, found this at a flea market in the late 1960's and thought it interesting. It's been in the family ever since. Purchased from Donald Hodgson / Camberley, Surrey, UK. (Jl. 20, 2020) ($27). |
