English Cartwheel Penny / 1797. Purchased from Mike Veissid / Shrewsbury, Shropshire, UK. (Fb. 23, 2023) ($10).
This cluster of text and image is difficult to decipher but, it's obviously a show of support for the Crown. It's interesting that the word queen has been stamped over the image of Britannia making her the de facto consort to the King.
The large counterstamped crown is partially obscured by the word crown but is clearly visible under magnification.
Though an obvious message proclaiming loyalty to King and country, is it related to the Irish question? Not sure, but likely, yes. |
