1809/6 1/2 C 9 Over Inverted 9, C-5, B-5, R.1, MS64 Brown PCGS. CAC. Our EAC Grade MS60. Impressive, intermingled chocolate-brown, steel, and golden-tan toning appears on both sides of this Choice Mint State half cent. A small splash of reddish patina appears on Liberty's nose. Frosty cartwheel luster enhances the surfaces of this exceptional half cent. Variety: C-5, B-5. Most of the dentilation is gone on this late die state example. Cracks that appear in earlier states are weakened due to die polishing. Population Data (4/15): PCGS reports seven in MS64 Brown with four finer, all MS65 Brown. This is the sole MS64 Brown with CAC green approval sticker. Heritage Commentary: Although routinely described as an "overdate," this variety is actually a repunched date with the 9 first punched upside down, and then corrected. The proper description is "9 over Inverted 9." Provenance: Terrell Collection (Bowers and Ruddy, 5/1973), lot 106; purchased from Jim McGuigan (11/2012).
