1828 1/2 C 13 Stars, C-3, B-2, R.1, MS63 Brown NGC. Our EAC Grade MS60. Subtle orange mint color appears on both sides of this Select Mint State half cent. The obverse is mostly olive, and the reverse is subdued reddish-steel. Variety: C-3, B-2. Manley Die State 3.0 or later. Some aspects of this coin suggest an earlier die state, and others suggest a later die state. There is plain repunching on star 7 and clash marks on the reverse. Population Data (3/15): This common variety shows hundreds of grading events at both services, both in the MS63 Brown grade of this piece and higher. The finest are two each in MS66 Brown and MS66 Red and Brown, both at NGC. Heritage Commentary: For the middle series of Classic Head half cents from 1825 to 1829, the 1828 13 Stars is the most common issue, and the C-3 is the most common variety. This is a perfect type collection coin. Provenance: Stack's (9/1997), lot 325.
